RB Leipzig Stands Firm Amid Roc Nation vs. Max Gradel Dispute

RB Leipzig's managing director, Marcel Schäfer, has adamantly refuted any suggestions that the escalating clash between Roc Nation and Max Gradel might sabotage the impending transfer of Yan Diomande to Real Madrid.

The young Ivorian, Diomande, has garnered interest from various clubs this summer, with Real Madrid seemingly overtaking Paris Saint-Germain in the race to secure his services in a blockbuster deal valued at €135 million ($153.8m).

  1. Sources close to the situation informed ESPN recently that Real Madrid was anticipating the deal's finalization "in the coming hours," yet an unforeseen halt has since hindered progress.
  2. Schäfer dismissed claims suggesting an imminent completion of the deal, emphasizing Diomande's injury and recuperation post-World Cup as contributing factors.

Uncertainty Clouds Diomande's Future

"It's evident that certain alleged transfer pundits prematurely declared the deal as done or imminent — that's far from the reality. We still have some way to go," Schäfer elucidated during an interview with Sky Sports.

"Yan is in the process of recovery; I had a conversation with him just yesterday. Once he regains full fitness and feels prepared, he will travel to Austria to join our setup. Yan remains our contracted player," he affirmed.

Agent Dispute Casts Cloud Over Transference

While indications point towards an imminent deal, a snag is observed in the negotiations, primarily concerning the representation of Diomande.

  1. The 19-year-old previously affiliated with Max Gradel's agency, Maxidel, before transitioning to Roc Nation, Jay Z's powerhouse.
  2. The transfer of Diomande's allegiance from Maxidel to Roc Nation has stirred controversy, with Gradel hinting at potential irregularities in the process.

The fracas has now attracted FIFA's intervention, becoming the focal point of the delay in solidifying the transfer.

Addressing concerns of a possible deal collapse, Schäfer reassured, "To the best of my knowledge, a firm no. Following the agent switch, as communicated by Yan, Roc Nation remains our point of contact. I don't foresee this impasse causing a transfer failure — if indeed the deal materializes.".
